Mineral City man in custody after leading deputies on short pursuit in Mill Township

UHRICHSVILLE ‒ A Mineral City man is in custody after leading deputies on a short pursuit in Mill Township on the morning of Aug. 7.

According to Detective Capt. Adam Fisher of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a traffic accident in the vicinity of Royal Lane and Brightwood Road in Goshen Township. As they were clearing up the scene, they observed Russell J. Renicker, 48, headed eastbound on Brightwood Road on a motorcycle.

Renicker had an active warrant out of Tuscarawas County Court ‒ Southern District in Uhrichsville.

Later when a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Indian Hill Road SE in Mill Township, Renicker made a U-turn and fled, Fisher said.

At that time, Fisher and another detective, Ed Jones, were in the area. Renicker saw them, and tried to take evasive maneuvers. He crashed the motorcycle on Indian Hill Road, Fisher said.

Renicker then fled on foot through a field and was later found under some brush in a creek, the detective said.

Renicker was transported to Mercy Hospital in Canton for treatment for minor injuries, Fisher said. He will then be incarcerated on the warrant.

Charges are pending related to the pursuit.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Uhrichsville police and firefighters and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
