McConnelsville man killed in head-on collision on Interstate 70; three children injured

ZANESVILLE − A McConnelsville man died at the scene of a head-on collision at 1:29 a.m. June 22 on Interstate 70 east of the 155 mile marker.

The victim, Derek G. Lydelle, 38, was driving a Yukon when he struck a Peterbilt semi driven by Jamal Gathumbi, 42, of Elkton, Maryland, according to the Zanesville post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The collision caused the vehicles to catch fire. Three juveniles passengers were able to exit the Yukon and were transported to Genesis Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
