Longtime Marino’s Seafood Fish & Chips owners Harry and Rosemarie Kougendakis are retiring.
The 5th Avenue fish-and-chips restaurant, however, will remain open with new owners.
The Kougendakis’ announced on Facebook Aug. 1 that they were retiring after 33 years of serving the Columbus area.
The couple, in the announcement, said, “We now have decided to retire and start taking things just a bit slower. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts as you have made Marinos your dinning spot.”
The couple has planned retirement before, however. Last July, the fish-and-chips restaurant closed because the two planned to retire. After just a few weeks, the couple unretired and reopened the restaurant on Aug. 20, 2025. As The Dispatch previously reported, Harry Kougendakis said, “six weeks. But at least I know how it feels.”
This time, however, the couple does not plan on closing the restaurant. Instead, Marino’s will be getting new owners. In the announcement, the two noted the staff will remain the same.
Manpreet Kaur, one of the new owners of the store, told The Dispatch that the restaurant will continue on the same as it was.
Kaur, and her husband, Sandip Bhatia, took over the restaurant on Aug. 3. Less than a week in, the couple has had a good experience at Marino’s so far, Kaur said.
