A 26-year-old man riding a scooter died after colliding with a car in Hyde Park the morning of May 1, according to Cincinnati police.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Erie and Pinehurst avenues just before 10 a.m. to investigate a fatal crash, police said in a news release.

Preliminary investigation revealed the man was traveling eastbound on Erie Avenue on a silver Vespa scooter when a red Chevrolet Corvette traveling westbound attempted to make a left turn in front of the scooter.

The scooter struck the Corvette and the 26-year-old was ejected. Police said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but he sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. He has not yet been identified.

The driver of the Corvette was uninjured.

Police said speed and impairment do no appear to be factors in the crash.
