Records and rankings often lose their luster under the bright lights of the Nutter Center, and the Malvern Hornets are counting on it. Despite a 20-9 record that suggests underdog status, the Hornets are ready to embrace the role of bracket-buster against the unblemished Delphos St. John squad with a huge victory.
Gates are open and Malvern fans start filing into the Nutter Center to see the Hornets take on Delphos St. John in a Division VII state semifinal with the winner advancing to Saturday’s championship game
Public enemy No. 1 for Hornets fans is Blue Jays senior Cameron Elwer, who averages 29.3 points per game and was a finalist for the 2026 Ohio Mr. Basketball Award. But the award went for the second consecutive year to Garfield Height’s Marcus Johnson.
