Lakeside Chautauqua will host the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall from May 28 to June 1, marking the only scheduled stop in Ohio during America’s 250th anniversary celebration.
The three-fifths-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., rises six feet at its center and stretches nearly 300 feet in length. More than 58,000 names are etched into its surface, each representing a U.S. service member who died in the Vietnam War.
The memorial will be displayed along Lakeside’s lakefront near Hotel Lakeside, offering visitors a space for remembrance, reflection and connection.
Created to take the national memorial closer to communities across the country, The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall gives veterans, families and visitors a chance to honor those who served.
Veterans will receive complimentary admission to view the memorial upon presenting a valid Veteran ID at the gates (valid for two hours). Parking is an additional fee.
Volunteers needed for event
Volunteers are needed to assist with monitoring the exhibit during its stay and with setup and teardown. At least 20 volunteers are required to load in on May 27, and load out on June 2. Volunteers must be ages 18 or older. Registration is available at lakesideohio.com/vietnamwall.
Admission and parking
Lakeside Chautauqua requires guests to purchase a Chautauqua Pass and Auto Pass to enter the grounds from May 22 to Sept. 7. A variety of pass options are available based on the length of stay.
A pass includes admission to the grounds and access to Hoover Auditorium entertainment, the pool, wellness center and a wide range of educational, cultural arts, religious and recreational programs.
Passes may be purchased online at lakesideohio.com/visiting or at the Lakeside gates upon arrival. Guests ages five and under and 90+ enjoy free admission. All passes are valid from the day of use until 7 p.m. the following day.
