Stone Bowl, a fixture of the Oakley restaurant community, has closed after 12 years.
The owners of the Korean and ramen restaurant announced the storefront’s closure on Facebook on Sunday, Aug. 16.
Stone Bowl was located on Madison Road next to MadTree Brewing. The restaurant’s large orange and blue sign is hard to miss for drivers on the busy road.
The restaurant served traditional Korean staples such as bibimbap as well as noodles, Japanese sushi, bento boxes and ramen.
Owners and married couple, Young Park and Misook Gwon, said in the Facebook post the closure is due to a job relocation.
“Four years ago, my wife accepted a job in another state, and since then our family has been temporarily living apart,” the post reads. “We did our best to make it work, but now the time has come for us to close this chapter, reunite our family, and begin the next one together.”
Park and Gwon expressed appreciation for those who visited their restaurant, including those who treated Stone Bowl as their “second home” and helped the restaurant survive the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We will carry with us all the love, understanding, encouragement, and friendship you have given our family over these 12 years,” the post reads.
