LAKE TWP. − A multi-million-dollar expansion is underway at Kirk Key Interlock.
The company is expanding its office and production facility at 9048 Meridian Circle NW in the AKCAN Industrial Park, by 60%.
Nabih Semaan, management consultant for the company, said they’ve already added 13 jobs and plan to add about seven more from the expansion, a 25% employee increase.
“It’s really more than just a construction project,” Semaan said. “It’s a powerful symbol of success, innovation and our solid commitment to safety and excellence.”
The company manufactures trapped-key interlocks, a safety system that ensures the proper steps are followed when accessing hazardous areas to reduce human error. They’re often used in industrial settings or by energy companies.
In the past three years, Kirk Key has seen increased demand for their interlocks as data centers are being built to meet AI demands, Semaan said.
“This expanded facility will allow us to better serve our customers and to continue creating new job opportunities,” he said.
The addition will expand the location’s production and office space. Everything will be built with non-combustable materials. Other specialized features include a fire suppression system and air conditioning, even in the warehouse area.
Campbell Construction is the designer and builder for the expansion project.
Kirk Key secured tax break to help fund project
Lake Township and Stark County approved a 75%, 10-year tax abatement agreement for the building addition. The company in exchange promised to add full-time jobs and increase its payroll.
Daniel DeHoff, president of DeHoff Development Company, said the incentives were important in getting the project off the ground.
“A facility of this size needs some assistance to help,” DeHoff said.
Kirk Key Interlock is owned by British company Halma.
