What you see is what you tend to get with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
As it turns out, that is a line of thinking that applies to his approach to the Trey Hendrickson contract standoff, too.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler appeared on “Get Up” on Monday and revealed that Burrow doesn’t necessarily blame the Bengals for the Hendrickson drama (h/t Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari):
“I checked with a source, and I was told that Burrow really doesn’t blame people behind the scenes, front offices, coaching staff, other players, when it comes to football operations. He puts it all on his shoulders and says, ‘Hey, we have to get this done. I’m the quarterback of this franchise, let’s do it.’ But he does acknowledge that this is a distraction, that getting Hendrickson done is important.”

That’s pretty standard Burrow: Put it all on himself. He was, after all, the guy shouldering blame last year while putting up MVP-like numbers.
Despite this, Burrow has publicly said the Hendrickson situation is a distraction. In the past, he’s lobbied for the Bengals to get the Hendrickson deal done, just like he did for Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Burrow has since seemed to ease off that rough stance for now, which makes sense. There’s a big difference in paying the star quarterback’s top young weapons and spending big on a 30-year-old pass-rusher with a recent history of holdouts and contract discontent.
No matter what unfolds with Hendrickson, Bengals fans sort of already knew how Burrow would tackle it, right?
