Jets’ Justin Fields, Garrett Wilson praised by Ohio State football teammate Josh Myers

There was a Buckeye reunion taking place in week one of the NFL season.

Traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Jets in the offseason, former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields had a reunion with former Buckeyes wide receiver Garrett Wilson in the Jets’ loss to the Steelers on Sept. 6. It looked all too familiar to Buckeyes fans, as well as fellow Jets and Ohio State teammate Josh Myers, when the quarterback-receiver duo two connected on a score.

“It was super cool,” Myers said to reporters on Sept. 8. “It was amazing watching that, especially that touchdown he threw to Garrett.”

Before this NFL season, the last time Myers, Fields and Wilson were teammates was during the 2020 season for Ohio State, where all three players were key to the Buckeyes’ success in their run to the national championship game.

Against the Steelers on their second scoring drive, Fields threw a lob to Wilson on a play-action pass for a 33-yard touchdown, the first of the Jets’ season. The last time the two connected for a touchdown was during the 2021 national championship game against Alabama.

“It was like 2019 all over again,” Myers said. “I’ve seen that throw happen from the pocket like that so many times. It’s just amazing being back with those guys.”

Myers signed with the Jets in the 2025 offseason after four years with the Green Bay Packers, one of four former Buckeyes on the team along with Fields, Wilson and tight end Jeremy Ruckert.
