Bengals offensive lineman Ted Karras is an outlier when it comes to enjoying Cincinnati-favorite Skyline Chili, unlike teammates Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase.
On July 26, the veteran center was featured on former Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman’s Games with Names, a podcast that follows a sports history niche found on social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and more.
In the interview he was asked multiple questions by Edelman about his love for Cincinnati and its identity as a sports town.
“The best. I love Cincinnati,” Karras said. “Great local establishments, you can go out any night of the week and find people that are hanging out in Cincy.”
Edelman then asked whether he prefers Skyline or Gold Star, to which he chose Skyline.
“I had two coneys yesterday at the airport.” Karras said in the video. “(Cincinnati) is an underrated food town. I think there’s a lot of good restaurants.”
When asked what his favorites are at the moment, Karras listed National Exemplar in Mariemont, Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse, Oak Tavern in Oakley and Mt. Lookout Tavern.
“Ruby’s definitely makes Cincinnati that underrated food town,” Karras said. “Whenever you want to bring someone in, if you want to impress anyone in Cincinnati, take them to any of the Ruby’s establishments.”
The two also dove into the Bengals’ upcoming season, with Karras explaining what’s necessary to maintain a level of play to get his team back into a winning, Super Bowl mindset.
“I kind of have a ‘do or die’ mentality,” Karras said. “Nothing’s guaranteed obviously in this league. I’m going into year 10. We missed the playoffs two years in a row. So one of the things I said at the end of the season was, I told everyone, ‘Let’s up the serious meter two or three notches.'”
Karras says that they have to have a better start in September than they have in the past. “We got to go out and win Week 1 in Cleveland, battle of Ohio against a good Cleveland team.
Edelman then asked about the dynamic between him and Joe Burrow, both on and off the field and how he compares to Karras’ previous quarterback Tom Brady when the two played for New England Patriots.
“He’s the man … Joe is a peer and a great friend,” Karras said. “Do they have a lot of similarities? I’ll say the two best throwers of the football that I’ve seen.”
