The Fairfield Union boys and girls cross country teams both won the Southeast Division III district championship Oct. 18 at Rio Grande University.
For the girls’ team, it marked the 10th time in the last 11 years they have won the title, and the boys won for the fourth consecutive year.
Sadie Schultz led the way by finishing first overall (18:43.95) and was named the District Runner of the Year. Connor Runkle led the way for the boys by placing first overall (15:49.08) and was named the District runner of the Year. Rob Myers was named the SE District Coach of the Year.
Named to the All-District Team on the girls’ side was Schultz (first, 18:43.95), Vera Henderly (second, 19:09.83), Ellen Morgan (21:25.03), Kate Springer 13th, 21:27.89) and Ava Wilkinson (20th, 21:54.51). Other runners for the Falcons were Katelyn Huntziner (33rd, 23:25.56) and Katie Welsh (35th, 23:33.64).
Earning All-District honors on the boys’ side was Runkle (first, 15:49.08), Connor Myers (fifth, 16:36.91), AJ Ray (11th, 17:02.14), Chase Miller (12th, 17:05.19), Colin Reindle (15th, 18:09.03) and Chase Myers (19th, 17:34.26). Ethan Phillips finished 76th (20:12.89).
Liberty Union: The Liberty Union Cross Country teams competed at the Central District Cross County Championships at Hilliard Darby High School October 17. The girls team placed fifth in DIII Section 2. The Lions were led by Rachel Sponseller (ninth, 21:54). She was followed by Elizabeth Conn (13th, 22:25), Caroline Endsley (18th, 23:17), Lily Endsley (30th, 24:19), Taylor Jones (31st, 24:24), Emily Shultz (39th, 27:09), and Kathleen Slaby (42nd, 28:54).
The boys team placed fourth in DIV Section 2, qualifying for regionals, and were led by William McCreery (third, 16:56). He was followed by Charlie Sponseller (20th, 19:13), Hunter Maddux (29th, 20:08), Micah Fisher (30th, 20:16), Silas Kohler (36th, 21:09), and Levi Hendershot (43rd, 22:16).
Fisher Catholic: The Irish won the District 1 Cross Country Meet held at Hilliard Darby Oct. 18, scoring 25 points and qualified for the Division 4 Regional, which will be held at Pickerington North Oct. 25.
Leading the Irish was senior Roman Funk, who placed second-16:57.8 1st Team All District. Other Irish runners were senior Landen Funk-fourth-17:09.1 1st Team All District, Corbin Stobartt-fifth-17:12.8-fifth-1st Team All District, Gordon Crabtree-17:46.9- 2nd Team ALL District, senior Reece Hagy-11th-18:01.5-2nd Team All District, Nicholas Rstau- 22nd-19:42.6 and Noah Krile 40th- 21:39.8.
The Irish Girls were led by junior Mary Grace Crabtree, who placed ninth with a time of 21:03.5-2nd Team All District-Regional Qualifier. Other Irish runners were Junior Eve Ohwoforwaraye 15th- 21:38.9-PR Regional Qualifier, freshman Stella Koehler-20th-22.33.9-Regional Qualifier and Junior Allie Krile- 21st-22:40.6-Regional Qualifier. Irish Girls did not field a Team.
Volleyball
Bloom-Carroll 3, Independence 0: The Bulldogs (22-1) cruised to a 25-1, 25-6, 25-0 tournament-opening win over the 76ers. Sylvia Haughn had 13 kills, Kylynne Solberger finished with 13 aces, Azi Morris had five digs and Renee Smith had 16 assists.
Soccer
Pickerington Central 3, Lancaster 2: The Lady Gales (9-5-4) came up short in the Central District Division I tournament opener against the Tigers (13-4-1).
Mia Griggs scored two goals, one on a direct kick and one assisted by Molly Stedman. Grace Hampson finished with 13 saves.
