How you can get free pet food in Summit County amid the government shutdown

What if you have a pet and can’t afford pet food amid the federal government shutdown? In Summit County, food pantries and others are offering help.

If the shutdown continues, it could mean about 1.4 million Ohioans would be left without monthly food assistance benefits starting Nov. 1.

This story has been corrected. The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank does not distribute pet food at its Opportunity Parkway pantry, but any donated pet food it receives may go to other pantries in its network.
