Hey, Guernsey County! Here's what you need to know to start your week

City council’s agenda

Cambridge City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 10, in council chambers.

A third reading will be held on the proposed Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA), a specific public zone where adults aged 21 and older can legally buy an alcoholic drink from a licensed bar or restaurant and take it outside within the area. Additionally, a ordinance for a liquor permit for the Brickhouse Market and & Deli in on the agenda.

Bridge closure on Pigeon Gap Road

A bridge closure on Pigeon Gap Road, between Rabbit and Morrison roads, will take place at 6:30 a.m. Aug. 10 and continue through noon Aug.11. The closure is for bridge maintenance, according to the Guernsey County Highway Department.

America 250 picnic in Noble Co.

The Village of Batesville and the Beaver Township Community will have an America 250 celebration picnic at 2 p.m. Aug. 22, at the Batesville Park in Noble County. Chicken will be provided for the picnic which begins at 2 p.m. Attendees are to bring a side dish to share and their own beverages. Route 40 Band will perform at 4 p.m.

Grants for nonprofits available

The Guernsey County Foundation, in partnership with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, is accepting grant applications from nonprofits, schools and public organizations for projects and programs benefiting the people and communities of Guernsey County.

Grants will be awarded for arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services. Emphasis is on supporting individuals of all ages who are spearheading projects and programs that create opportunities, meet pressing needs and unleash the potential within Guernsey County.

Funding requests should be between $500 and $10,000, but larger requests may be considered based on potential impact. Additional information and the 2026 grant application are available at www.AppalachianOhio.org/Guernsey/grant-opportunities. Applications must be submitted online by Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Meetings

● Guernsey County Children Services Board will meet 1 p.m. Aug. 10, at its offices.

● Rich HIll Township will hold a special meeting at 8 p.m. Aug. 10, at 3640 Herron Road for the purpose of purchasing a road grader.

● East Muskingum Local School Board will meet at 4 p.m. Aug. 13, at John Glenn High School.
