LANCASTER − The Lancaster Festival returns this summer after storms and flooding wiped out the national acts last year.
Festival fans will notice some major changes this year.
The first Saturday performance on July 18 will feature two returning tribute acts – Elton Rohn and Dancing Dream. The former is an Elton John tribute and the latter is an ABBA tribute act. Elton Rohn performed here in 2022 and Dancing Dream was last here in 2021.
Lady A will headline the finale on July 18. That act was supposed to perform here in 2022, but had to cancel about 10 days before the scheduled show. The Lancaster Festival Orchestra will perform with Lady A, but will not perform with the tribute acts on July 18.
The Saturday performances start at 8 p.m.
The traditional Wednesday tribute night will instead mark a return of the Covered Bridge Music Series, which features, singer/songwriters, folk acts, up-and-coming artists, Americana acts and the like. The festival will announce that headliner at a later date.
“We just thought this year might be a good year to switch some things up,” festival executive director Deb Connell said. “Because of the flooding we were looking for ways to change a few things as we go along. This is just a trial for this year.”
She said should any issues at the concert arise from last year’s flood, they would be easter to fix with a tribute production than a full production with the festival orchestra.
“Plus, the tribute band night being on Wednesday, it’s been one of our most popular nights,” Connell said. “We’ve been wanting to try it on a Saturday night for a few years. So we thought we would give the tribute bands a Saturday night to shine.”
