Former Browns QB Brian Sipe gives his take on the new stadium

Former Cleveland quarterback Brian Sipe was the latest to share his opinion on the Browns’ decision to build an indoor stadium in Brook Park. This comes after the Browns officially announced that they would be constructing a new domed stadium 15 minutes from downtown Cleveland, in Brook Park, OH.

In a recent article by Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Sipe shared some heartfelt memories of his time with the Browns and offered his thoughts on the team moving out of downtown Cleveland:

“I’ll never forget the walk through the city, down to the stadium,” he said. “The closer you got to the stadium, the more it was like streams feeding a river. The chanting would get louder and louder, and the enthusiasm was just peaking by the time you started crossing the beltway there.”

Sipe also highlighted the elements of cold weather, toughness, and dedication that defined Browns fans and outdoor football:

“That was a signature of being part of Browns football—that you showed up, regardless of the conditions and distractions, and you played football, and that’s all that mattered,” said Sipe.

The former leader of the “Kardiac Kids” Browns teams of 1979 and 1980 was candid in reliving memories of the downtown football experience. As expected, he acknowledged that many aspects of the downtown Cleveland football tradition will not carry over to Brook Park—and that this move will have a lasting effect on fan traditions when the stadium relocation happens in 2029.

While many former players and fans have shared this opinion about the Browns’ move to Brook Park, the team has no intention of changing its plans to build the new domed stadium.
