A firefighter and a resident were injured in a Medina Township house fire May 5, the Medina Fire Department said.
Medina firefighters who arrived just before 5 p.m. found heavy fire in the garage had extended into the attic and interior of the home.
During efforts inside the home, a large section of the second-floor drywall ceiling collapsed onto a Medina firefighter, the department said in a Facebook post May 6. He was briefly trapped at the bottom of the stairs before crews were able to remove him and take him to a medic crew from Medina Life Support Team.
The firefighter was transported to Medina Hospital, where he was released later that evening. He was at home May 6 and doing well, the department said. The resident who was taken to the hospital with minor burn injuries was later released.
The Medina Fire Department received assistance from Brunswick and Brunswick Hills fire departments, the Medina Township Police Department and the American Red Cross.
