Fairfield Union, FCA baseball advances, track stars shine

BASEBALL

Fairfield Union 3, Circleville 2: The top-seeded Falcons held on for a hard-fought win over the Tigers in a Southeast District Division IV district semifinal at Ohio University.

Fairfield Union scored a run in the first inning on an RBI double from Garrett Dilcher, then added two runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead when Brady Andrews hit a two-run single. The Tigers scored a run in the fourth, cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth, and had runners at first and third in the top of the seventh inning before Cameron Silcott shut the door with a strikeout to end it.

Eli Wolfe started, giving up an unearned run, and Silcott closed it out, pitching two-plus innings, giving up five hits and one run.

The Falcons, who won the Mid-State League-Buckeye Division championship with an 11-1 record, improved to 20-6 overall.

Fairfield Union will play Gallia Academy in a district championship game at 6:30 p.m. on May 26 at Ohio University.  

Fairfield Christian 10, Academy Fisher Catholic 0: The Knights cruised in their Central District Division VII second-round tournament win over the Irish at Beavers Field.

Ben Vance led the offense with three hits, and he scored four times. FCA (16-8) finished with 12 hits. Josh Witte and Blair each recorded multiple hits.

AJ Holbrook was outstanding on the mound, pitching five scoreless innings, giving up no runs, one hit, while striking out 10. He also led off the game with a triple. Brayden Stem pitched a scoreless sixth inning.

Nick Harris recorded the lone hit for Fisher Catholic. Ethan O’Rielley took the loss.

FCA, which won the Mid-State League-Cardinal Division with a 13-1 record, advances to the district semifinal game at 5 p.m. on May 27 against Ridgedale or Danville at a site to be determined.

TRACK

Fairfield Union places second: The Lady Falcons placed second at the Southeast District meet, and the boys placed third.

Fairfield Union has several athletes advancing to regionals at Muskingum University next weekend.

They include: Logan Osborn – District Champion – 400m; Chase Miller – 800m; Connor Runkle – 1600m; Connor Myers – 3200m; Bodee Kraft – 300m Hurdles; The 4x400m Team of Will Ogg, Kohen Arnett, Bodee Kraft, and Logan Osborn – District Champions; The 4x800m Team of Chase Miller, Caleb Tiller, Logan Osborn, Connor Runkle – District Champions; Grant Gobert – Pole Vault; Ayden Cottrill – Pole Vault, and Will Ogg – Long Jump.

Katie Welsh – 100m; Tyler Teal – 800m; Vera Henderly – 1600m; Sadie Schultz – 1600m; Very Henderly – 3200m; Sadie Schultz – 3200m; Katie Welsh – 100m Hurdles; Katie Welsh – 300m Hurdles; The 4x400m Team of Katie Welsh, Ava Wilkinson, Tyler Teal, and Vera Henderly; The 4x800m Team of Vera Henderly, Kate Springer, Tyler Teal, and Sadie Schultz; Macie Wolfe – Shot Put; Macie Wolfe – Discus, and Kaeda Miller – District Champion & New School Record (11-8) – Pole Vault.
