Medina native Matt Amodio is still alive on “Jeopardy!”
The popular gameshow eliminated three contestants Wednesday night in the Knockout Round of the Masters Tournament.
Amodio, who works as a quantitative researcher in New York City, finished in second place in his match against Victoria Groce and Adriana Harmeyer despite not hitting a single Double Jeopardy! in the match.
Groce ran away with the win with the only mystery going into Final Jeopardy was whether Amodio, a Medina and Ohio State grad, would answer the clue correctly to finish ahead of Harmeyer.
The Final Jeopardy clue: Naturalist the Count de Buffon mocked North and South America animals like “this elephant of the new world… the size of a very small mule.”
The answer? The Tapir.
They all got it correct and Amodio finished with the second most points and earned a spot in the tournament’s next round.
Harmeyer was eliminated.
In the final elimination match of the night, Brad Rutter and Neilesh Vinjamuri were also eliminated from the tournament.
At the conclusion of the Knockout Round, Amodio is in sixth place.
The tournament started last month with nine current Jeopardy! champions matching wits over six weeks for a chance to win $500,000 and the Alex Trebek Trophy.
