COSHOCTON −A 71-year-old Fresno man has been charged after authorities say he shot a 24-year-old woman with a shotgun before barricading himself inside a residence.
The incident happened on Aug. 19 in the 25000 block of White Eyes Township Road 180, according to a release from the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities reported Rick Phillips was involved in a verbal altercation with the woman before retrieving a shotgun from inside the residence and shooting her while in the year.
Deputies arrived on the scene and removed the victim and another woman from the scene. Phillips barricaded inside the house, according to the release.
Negotiators talked to Phillips for a period of time before he exited the residence and surrendered to deputies.
Phillips has been charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony.
Also assisting on scene were Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Coshocton County Prosecutor’s Office.
