Jackson Township Fire Department Inspector Denny Tan said firefighters were called at 1:48 a.m. to 6940 Sunset Strip Ave. NW, along with a contingent of North Canton firefighters, to battle the blaze that scorched a section of the restaurant’s southwest side.

“There was heavy damage to the outside, as well as smoke, heat and fire damage inside the structure,” said Tan, adding that firefighters left at 4:26 a.m.

The building was empty when the fire broke out, said Tan, adding that one Jackson firefighter was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Cause of the restaurant fire is under investigation, said Tan, noting that the blaze was reported by a passerby. No preliminary cause was immediately available.

A phone message left with Cracker Barrel’s corporate office was not immediately returned.

It’s the only one of the chain’s locations in Stark County.

Tan said the financial loss should be extensive, due to the restaurant’s physical damage and closure that’s likely to continue for several days.

There was no estimated monetary damage listed in the initial fire report, Tan said.
