A Columbus man faces a robbery charge after police say he robbed the same bank on the same day two years in a row.
At around 1:35 p.m. Aug. 4, the suspect used a note to rob the KeyBank located at 2855 E. Main Street, according to a criminal complaint filed by robbery detectives with the police Robbery Unit. The man allegedly walked up to the teller and handed him a note that said, “Robbery 50$ 100$ Im Serious,” according to the criminal complaint. The teller handed the suspect money along with an electronic tracker, the complaint states.
The suspect then left the bank and walked eastbound before he was stopped by police in the 1300 block of City Park Avenue, according to the complaint. Two employees from KeyBank, one of whom was the teller, identified him as the suspect, the complaint states.
On that same day in 2025, the man robbed that same KeyBank, as well as the Heartland Bank located at 6887 E. Main Street in Reynoldsburg, according to police and charging documents. Instead of prison time, the man was sentenced to three years of community control in January 2026 – commonly referred to as probation, according to court filings.
The man was slated into the Franklin County jail. He has a court date scheduled for Aug. 14, court records show.
