There could be as many as 950 Claire’s locations staying open after a private holding company acquired the retail company for $140 million.
While the tween mall staple still plans to shutter locations, private equity firm Ames Watson announced its $140 million takeover of Claire’s, USA TODAY reports. The firm adds that Claire’s would have a “smaller but stronger footprint,” signifying the closure of stores nationwide.

The closing locations include 235 Claire’s stores and 56 Icing stores, a similar fashion retail chain. It was not yet announced which specific locations would remain open after the Ames Watson acquisition. The company had not yet responded to a request for that information before this story published.

There are 45 Claire’s locations in Ohio, down nine stores since the start of August. This now includes three locations in Columbus, two in Cincinnati, one in Canton and several in the Cleveland area.
