Case-Barlow Farm’s Annual Fall Harvest Fest returns on Sunday, Sept. 14 for the 27th year with new features as well as favorites from the past.
Rain or shine, the event offers activities for all ages along with demonstrations and, of course, food from noon to 5 p.m.
The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will transform the barn into a model railroad station with working trains and hands-on activities. New this year will be a hay mountain to climb sponsored by Hudson Clocktower Rotary Club, and the Kiwanis Club of Hudson will be presenting a garden tractor pull for children.
Pure Passions Farm will bring small farm animals and alpacas for everyone to pet and enjoy. Colorful plastic duck races, Ride’em and Rope’em, Pumpkin Bowling, Hay Hunt for Toddlers, and more are available. Children’s scavenger hunt allows the family to explore the entire fest with a prize at the end. Those attending can learn how to dip a candle, wash clothes the old-fashioned way, churn butter, shell and mash corn, plus make crafts to take home to families and friends.
In addition the day will include stone mason John Burnell, who will be discussing his restoration work on the farmhouse; the 19th Ohio Light Artillery displaying a Civil War encampment; arborist Curt VanBlarcum; blacksmith Shawn Petries; Joe Leonard, wood carver, who created the wood carousel horses for Disney Paris; Michael Cohill with his marble railroad; and Keith Marok, who will demonstrate how marbles are made.
Returning this year, the Rubber City Ukes will entertain by the back porch of the farmhouse. The sounds of the Eddy Street Geezers will entertain throughout the day. New this year, children will have an opportunity to make a musical bottle to play along with the Geezers.
Case-Barlow Farm’s historical 1800s farmhouse will be filled with demonstrators showing the domestic chores and handcrafts of the early settlers and farmers. Returning this year is Sam Sapp playing the dulcimer and singing songs of local animals.
Admission is $10 per adult and $8 per child ages 3 through 18 years old. Toddlers 2 years and younger are free. Refreshments are sold separately. This is Case-Barlow Farm’s major family event and fundraiser; all proceeds from this event support Case-Barlow Farm.
