Browns rivals struggling to make Trey Hendrickson happy as Bengals continue dispute

A Cleveland Browns divisional rival continues to face its contract dispute issues with one of its star players as we enter training camp.

The Cincinnati Bengals continue to face issues with two of their most talented defensive ends, with the latest development involving 2024 NFL sack leader Trey Hendrickson. According to multiple NFL insiders, the Bengals and their star defensive player remain far from reaching an agreement on a possible contract extension, and he is not expected to report to Cincinnati’s training camp until the matter is resolved. Although the Bengals are reportedly offering a significant extension, it isn’t substantial enough for Hendrickson.

Earlier today, NFL Insider Tom Pelissero reported that former linebacker Manti Te’o spoke with the Bengals defender about the ongoing contract dispute. Hendrickson reportedly described the Bengals’ offer as “atrociously, atrociously low.” A deserving candidate for a sizable extension, Hendrickson has recorded 35 sacks and 89 tackles over the past two seasons.

While there is no official word on the exact terms the Bengals are offering, Hendrickson is believed to be seeking more than $40 million per year. This price tag follows contract extensions signed by fellow AFC North defensive ends T.J. Watt and Myles Garrett, which reset the market for players at the position. As the reigning NFL sack leader, Hendrickson believes he deserves a comparable deal and is not expected to settle for less than what other top defensive players have received this offseason.

The Bengals will need to resolve their defensive line issues sooner rather than later. In addition to Hendrickson’s holdout, Cincinnati has yet to finalize a deal with 2025 first-round pick Shamar Stewart, one of just two unsigned draft picks remaining. Time will tell whether the Bengals can get both contracts done before training camp progresses too far.
