BELLVILLE ― The body found in the swimming area off Gatton Rocks Road July 28 has been identified as Jeffery A. Rapp, 66, of Mansfield, according to a news release from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
Richland County Coroner’s Investigator Tom Stortz said the man’s body will be taken to Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The cause of death is pending the outcome of the autopsy.
The scene was processed with the assistance of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Maj. Jimmy Sweat with the sheriff’s office said a 911 call received at 11:24 a.m. July 28 reported an individual was found unresponsive in the river.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the coroner’s office, Butler Police Department and the Jefferson Township Fire Department.
