A 73-year-old woman died after a minivan went off the side of a North Linden road and struck her parked SUV, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office said.
Marilyn Patterson was sitting in her Hyundai Tucson with a child at 2:30 p.m. July 25 in the KFC parking lot on 3142 Cleveland Ave. when a Toyota Sienna turned right onto Cleveland Avenue, according to a Columbus police news release.
The Toyota left the right side of the roadway, hitting a light pole before entering the KFC parking lot and hitting the Hyundai head on, police said.
The crash forced the Hyundai backward through a fence and into the parking lot for the Shiloh Crossing apartment complex next to the KFC, according to the news release.
Medics brought Patterson to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition. A doctor there pronounced her dead at 9:46 p.m. on July 25, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office said.
The child in Patterson’s Hyundai was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in stable condition, and the Toyota’s driver was transported to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in stable condition.
Police said in the news release it’s unclear why the Toyota left the roadway. Police have not identified its driver or announced any charges in the crash.
