For the Cincinnati Bengals, it’s not just wide receiver.
As a franchise, the Bengals historically do a fantastic job at drafting and developing wideout talent.
It’s the same story at quarterback.
And when the drafted-and-developed quarterback goes down, the Bengals are pretty good at going out and getting a proper replacement in a hurry, too.
Case in point: Joe Flacco.
Flacco is back with the Bengals this offseason and it has the team ranked first overall in terms of backup quarterback rankings from Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated.
Manzano wrote: “Flacco is the ultimate backup because he offers hope, even amid the worst situations, including last year when the Bengals traded for him after Burrow’s injury.”
Indeed.
Bengals fans don’t really need told what Flacco pulled off last year. He came over and started the same week he was acquired and kept the Bengals alive long enough for Joe Burrow to come back.
Sure, Flacco was throwing to Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. But if it were so simple, any backup could do it.
Flacco isn’t just any backup, though. And his re-signing earlier than expected this offseason again gives the Bengals the best quarterback room in the NFL.
