Croston surrendered at the Stark County Jail at approximately 6 p.m. Dec. 10, Canton Police Chief John Gabbard said in a press release. Croston remained in jail on the morning of Dec. 11.

Young’s death was reported to police by a woman who lived nearby. She said another neighbor had looked inside a window of the victim’s house and had seen him on the floor. She said the back door had been kicked in.

The other neighbor, a man, walked up to arriving officers and said that he had gone to the house to meet with his friend and saw that the back door was open. He looked inside to see if his friend was OK, and saw him on the floor with blood on him. Police reported that the man “was freaked out” and left, but quickly returned and made contact with them.

The man told police that when he arrived originally to meet with his friend, he had seen that the doorbell camera had been ripped off and was lying in the front yard.

Croston is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 12 in Canton Municipal Court.

A message was left on the afternoon of Dec. 11 offering his attorney the opportunity to comment on his case.

The investigation continues. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Canton Police Detective Bureau at 330-489-3144 or the Canton Police Communications Center at 330-649-5800.
