Youngsters spent the morning of Aug. 2 dipping their lines into Kidwell Lake at Silver Park, taking advantage of the 2026 Greater Alliance Carnation Festival’s Fishing Derby. The event, in which those ages 4 to 12 are divided into divisions to compete for prizes, involved children fishing along the lake’s banks and recording the length of each fish they catch. The person with the largest total inch count was declared the winner in age groups of 4- to 6-year-old; 7- to 9-year-olds; and 10- to 12-year-olds.
