Akron City Council picks 2026 leaders, committee assignments

Akron City Council’s leadership will remain the same in 2026.

Ward 3 Councilwoman Margo Sommerville was reelected Jan. 5 as council president 11-1 with one abstention. At-Large Councilman Jeff Fusco was reelected as vice president 10-1 with two abstentions, and Ward 6 Councilman Brad McKitrick retained his position as president pro-tem in a 10-1 vote with two abstentions.

All three were last elected to their leadership positions in 2024.

After the leadership vote, council called a recess so Sommerville, Fusco and McKitrick could determine committee assignments.
