Police were called to the Mill Creek near Beekman Street and Queen City Avenue around 6 p.m. Aug. 15 after witnesses saw the car crash into the creek, according to Cincinnati police spokesman Brad Underwood.

Four people, who had already died, were pulled from the car, Underwood said. Another person was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover.

The car is still upside-down underwater as of 9:15 p.m., according to Cincinnati Police Lt. Brian Bolte. The water is about 4 to 5 feet deep and divers are in the water, Bolte said.

Tow trucks are preparing to remove the car from the water. Bolte said the car will be out within an hour.

The police department’s traffic unit continues to investigate. Additional details on what led up to the crash were not immediately available.

An Enquirer reporter is on the scene.

The Enquirer will update this report.
