The game’s best players converged on Atlanta for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game on July 15.
Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers took the mound to start the game for the NL and AL, respectively.
Guardians star Jose Ramirez was voted in as the starting third baseman for the AL but declined to participate in the All-Star festivities, instead choosing to rest and recover for the second half of the season, where Cleveland has quite a bit of work to do to climb back into the playoff race.
Guardian left fielder Steven Kwan, a reserve outfielder for the AL, came through with a tying RBI single with two outs in the ninth for the AL. The NL eventually won the game in memorable fashion.
Here’s how the 2025 MLB All-Star Game unfolded.
National League wins 2025 MLB All-Star Game with home run derby
The NL has won the All-Star Game after beating the AL 4-3 in the first ever Home Run Swing-Off.
Kyle Schwarber, who hit second for the NL, launched home runs on all three of his swings to lead the NL to the win.
2025 MLB All-Star Game heading to home run derby swing-off
The All-Star Game will be decided between a home run swing-off after the ninth inning ended in a 6-6 tie.
Both teams will select three players. Each player gets three swings. The team with the most home runs will win the All-Star Game.
This has never happened before.
How is a tie settled in the MLB All-Star Game? Are there extra innings?
If the NL can’t win it it in the bottom of the ninth, the game will not go into extra innings. The league needs to protect its pitchers.
It’ll instead go into a mini home run derby to decide the winner.
The Fox Sports cameras have already shown Pete Alonso for the NL and Brent Rooker for the AL taking swings in the batting cages to warm up.
Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan ties All-Star Game with RBI infield single in 9th inning
With the AL down to their last strike and the potential tying run on third in the form of Bobby Witt Jr., Steven Kwan tapped a grounder to the left side and beat it out for an RBI infield single to tie it 6-6 in the top of the ninth inning against Mets closer Edwin Diaz.
It’ll now head to the bottom of the ninth, where the NL can win it. But for the time being, Kwan did enough against Diaz to tie it for the American League.
Bobby Witt Jr. makes it 1-run score in the 9th inning of All-Star Game
The American League is mounting a rally in the ninth.
With Byron Buxton on second base after a double against Padres reliever Robert Suarez, Bobby Witt. Jr. ripped a double to right field to score Buxton and make it a 6-5 score with one out in the top of the ninth inning.
The NL is bringing in Mets closer Edwin Diaz, their last available pitcher for the night. The AL has scored five unanswered runs since trailing 6-0.
Eugenio Suarez hit by pitch in All-Star Game
One of the rules of the All-Star Game is that every team has to have at least one player on the roster. And yes, that even means the White Sox and Rockies.
That means White Sox reliever Shane Smith is an All-Star despite entering tonight with a 4.26 ERA. And, well, Smith just hit Diamondbacks infielder Eugenio Suarez on the hand with a pitch. Suarez looked at him as if to give a are-you-kidding-me type look.
It’s still 6-4 NL in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Major League Baseball honors Hank Aaron with tribute during 2025 MLB All-Star Game
MLB put on a really cool tribute to Hank Aaron breaking the home run record in 1974.
Steven Kwan enters All-Star Game in 7th inning
Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan entered as a defensive replacement and then recorded his first at-bat of the 2025 All-Star Game in the seventh inning, grounding out to the left side of the infield against Brewers reliever Trevor Megill.
Bobby Witt Jr. brings home a run; AL makes it a 2-run score vs NL in All-Star Game
It’s a 6-4 ballgame in the top of the seventh inning.
With a runner on third, Bobby Witt Jr. grounded out, but it was enough to bring home Maikel Garcia.
Brent Rooker home run cuts NL lead in half
The American League is on the board in the top of the seventh inning.
With Alejandro Kirk (single) and Johnathan Aranda (walk) on base, Brent Rooker drilled a three-run home run off Adrian Morejon that will cut the NL’s lead in half.
The pitching on both sides was dominant through five innings and now the ball is flying out of the ballpark left and right.
All-Star Game score: Corbin Carroll hits solo home run
After the AL brought in Casey Mize, Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll crushed a solo home run — he knew it the second it left his bat — and the NL has a 6-0 lead.
The AL has won 10 of the last 11 All-Star Games but it looks like the NL is on the way to taking this one.
Pete Alonso hits 3-run home run off Kris Bubic
The NL has opened up a 5-0 lead in the top of the sixth.
With Royals starter Kris Bubic on the mound, Fernando Tatis Jr. drew a walk and Brendan Donovan singled to lead to Pete Alonso, who drilled a three-run home run to right field.
What’s the score of the MLB All-Star Game?
The National League still leads 2-0 after the fourth inning, as the pitching has overpowered the All-Star lineups since the first inning and Ketel Marte’s 2-run double.
Kyle Tucker made a nice play to rob Cal Raleigh of a double with a sliding catch — other than that, not many pitches have been hit hard thus far.
Clayton Kershaw completes ‘legend’ appearance
Clayton Kershaw recorded two outs after being named to the All-Star roster as a ‘legend’ selection.
Cal Raleigh, Tarik Skubal, AL win first ABS challenge
Cal Raleigh won the first ABS challenge in the All-Star Game on a call that was overturned into a strikeout of Manny Machado in the first inning.
Ketel Marte puts National League on top in first inning against Tarik Skubal; MLB All-Star Game score update
Facing Tiger ace Tarik Skubal, Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani led off the first inning with a single and Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr followed with an infield single to set up Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte, who doubled down the right-field line to put the NL up 2-0 in the first inning.
All-Star Game returns to using every player’s team uniforms
The best development this year is that MLB returned to using team uniforms in the All-Star Game. The NL will wear their own respective teams’ home uniforms while the AL players use their teams’ road jerseys.
It’s such a good look, and it was a mistake by MLB to go away from it for a few years.
MLB All-Star Game score: Paul Skenes retires Aaron Judge, strikes out 2 in first inning
No surprise, Paul Skenes looked dominant with a breezy 1-2-3 inning that included two strikeouts and a groundout from Yankees star Aaron Judge.
Whenever the Pirates eventually trade Skenes, he’ll alter the entire playoff picture — he’s that good.
What is the ABS Automatic Ball Strike system being used in the MLB All-Star Game?
The 2025 All-Star Game will feature the ABS system, which could be coming to Major League games in future seasons. The system adds a robotic component to calls by the home plate umpire and allows hitters or pitchers to challenge strikes or balls by tapping their head.
The system has been tested in the minor leagues and spring training games.
Below is some pregame information.
