Two Rochester residents were seriously injured after their vehicle struck a home in the town of Wayland on Sunday, Aug. 16, according to state police.
New York State Police responded to a serious personal injury motor vehicle collision on W. Naples Street (state Route 63) in the town of Wayland at approximately 2:42 p.m.
The state police investigation determined that a 2020 Honda was traveling eastbound on W. Naples Street when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle crossed into the westbound lane, exited the roadway and struck multiple trees and a residence before coming to rest, police said.
The driver of the Honda, Liz D. Maldonado, 23, was transported to Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville for treatment of serious injuries. The passenger, Evelyne Y. Maldonado, also 23, was transported directly to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.
State police said the driver was not wearing a seat belt, while the passenger was.
The investigation remains ongoing as state police investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, including reports of reckless operation prior to the collision.
