As the high school football season gets underway this week, there are some faces in new places. Here 10 potential impact transfers from Central Indiana this season:
Markell Bailey: The junior wide receiver, now at North Central, might be the most impactful of the group. The 6-foot, 180-pound Bailey caught 36 passes for 629 yards and 15 touchdowns at Franklin Central last season as a sophomore. He also averaged 26.3 yards on kickoff returns. Bailey joins a talented group of wide receivers at North Central and will team with junior quarterback Chase Grove. His offer list includes Purdue, Austin Peay, Ball State, Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami (Ohio) and Western Michigan.
Woody Corey: The junior quarterback is projected as the starter at Park Tudor. An injury kept him from seeing much time at Noblesville as a sophomore. The 6-3 Corey had transferred to Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tenn., in the spring, but is back in Indianapolis going into his junior season.
Finn Giles: The 6-3 Giles was at Carmel last year, playing a backup role behind Anthony Coellner and Jackson Treadway. He transferred to Zionsville, where he took the majority of the No. 1 snaps in the scrimmage against Carmel on Friday night. Junior Mac Wright is also battling for the staring spot. Giles has a strong arm.
Chris Harris: The former Park Tudor quarterback is a junior and could fill a couple of different roles this season for the Greyhounds. He started out at receiver in the scrimmage against Zionsville with senior Jackson Treadway at quarterback, but later moved to QB and look good there, too. Harris’ versatility will give coach Kevin Wright some options. Harris passed for nearly 3,000 yards and 44 TDs in two seasons at Park Tudor and ran for 1,268 yards and 17 TDs.
Mychael Lewis: Lewis, a junior, passed for 809 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 583 yards and four TDs in eight games as a sophomore at Pike. After transferring to Carmel, it appears from Friday’s scrimmage that Lewis will play a role at running back for the Greyhounds with Treadway and Harris taking most of the snaps at QB.
KeiVon Mattox: The junior wide receiver is going to be a playmaker this season for a Lawrence North team that opens at home on Friday against two-time defending champion Brownsburg. Mattox caught 41 passes for 466 yards and four TDs as a sophomore at Brebeuf Jesuit. He also averaged 25.2 yards as a kickoff returner.
Ellis McGraw: The junior running back moved over to Lawrence Central from Lawrence North, where he ran for 144 yards and one TD last season in five games for the Wildcats. He should factor into the mix at running back for the Bears.
Jaxson Owens: The senior defense lineman, now at Lawrence North, was Class 6A all-state last season at Lawrence Central. He finished with 30 solo tackles, 14 TFLs, four sacks and four forced fumbles. He has offers from Grand Valley State, Indiana Wesleyan, Wabash and several others.
Rhys Ragan: The junior is a talented quarterback who moved in from Decatur, Texas, after passing for 2,502 yards and 25 TDs as a sophomore. Ragan can take off and run, too. Ragan has a lot of talent around him for the defending Class 5A state champions.
Bobby Thomas: The senior running back, now at Brownsburg, had a big breakout season as a junior at Pike, rushing for 926 yards and 12 touchdowns. Thomas committed to Saginaw Valley State last week. He will be part of a strong running back group for the back-to-back Class 6A state champions.
