Why the showcase is dedicated Floyd Farley
Farley was a 1956 graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School. He served in the US Army from 1958-1960.
After his military service, Farley became a basketball referee in Steuben County for 33 years. He was the first official from Steuben County to officiate a game at the New York State Public High School Basketball Tournament in Glens Falls.
A lifetime member of IAABO Board #156, Farley was a mentor to numerous young officials, providing guidance and advice.
The Floyd P. Farley Sportsmanship Award has been given for the past 48 years to the Steuben County school demonstrating the best sportsmanship.
Farley died on July 26, 2020 at age 83.
The community will welcome Farley’s wife, Betsey Farley; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Dean Wightman, grandson Patrick Wightman and family, and members of IAABO Boards #60 and #156 to the event.
