A recent national survey found Walmart is the grocery superstore trusted across the most categories by 35,215 U.S. consumers.
Walmart finished first in the 2026 Brandspark Most Trusted Awards, winning 12 categories, from best private-label items to customer service.
There are almost no Walmarts, known for its discounts, in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties. There’s a Walmart in Westchester’s Mohegan Lake (Yorktown) and one in Rockland County’s Suffern. A White Plains Walmart closed in 2018.
It’s another sign of how our region cuts against the grain. Westchester, one of the nation’s wealthiest counties by incomes, has soon-to-be-five Trader Joe’s, one Wegmans, and three Whole Foods. It has 11 DeCicco & Sons stores across Westchester and Putnam (DeCicco & Sons will also open a new location next door in hyper-affluent Greenwich, Connecticut, which is home to several billionaires.)

Aldi, the Germany-based chain with two Rockland County locations, in Nanuet and Stony Point, and none in Westchester, notched the second most wins in the consumer trust survey.
Under grocery store with low prices in the Northeast, Aldi won, with Walmart second.
Walmart also won for customer service nationally.

The survey also asked people about more than 350 product categories, from best children’s cold and cough relief and best canned fruit to best electric toothbrush and best toaster oven.
