Monday’s Olympic semifinal matchup against Sweden was more of the same for Team USA. The U.S. women’s hockey team shut out the Swedes, 5-0, to advance to another gold medal game.
The U.S. has not allowed a goal since the second period of its tournament opener against Czechia. The win was Team USA’s fifth consecutive shutout, and the 331 minutes without allowing a goal is the longest stretch in Olympic history.
Haley Winn, a defenseman from the Rochester area, has points in four straight games. She picked up a secondary assist on Abbey Murphy’s goal late in the second period that put Team USA ahead 3-0.
Among the other highlights: Hayley Scamurra, a Buffalo-area native, had one of Team USA’s goals.
