MAMAKATING – State police are investigating a crash that killed two men March 9 in the Town of Mamakating.
State police said a preliminary investigation determined that a 2022 Nissan was traveling northbound on Winterton Road in the Town of Mamakating just before 7 p.m. on March 9 when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve.
The Nissan crossed into the southbound lane, exited the roadway on the western shoulder and struck a utility pole.
The Bloomingburg Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated the two occupants of the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Gary A. Burlew, 66, and the passenger, identified as Jeffrey Burlew, 38, both of Bloomingburg, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
State police were assisted at the scene by the Mamakating First Aid Squad.
State police said their investigation into the crash is continuing. Anyone who might have witnessed the crash or has information about it is asked to contact the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at the Wurtsboro barracks at 845-344-5300.
