Beginning on Aug. 24, Broome County drivers should be prepared for various construction projects hitting local roads and highways.
From Broome County highways to downtown Binghamton roadways, motorists can expect possible delays and detours as even more road work is set to begin.
Here’s what Broome County road projects are set to start on Aug. 24.
Various construction projects, road work to begin in Broome County
Main Street in Binghamton
A portion of Main Street in the City of Binghamton will be closed beginning Aug. 24 for construction.
City of Binghamton Deputy Mayor Ben Straebler announced on Aug. 21 that Main Street between Schiller Street and Ashbury Court will be closed to motorists for paving. Various side streets leading to Main Street will also be closed “as appropriate with the progression of the paving operation,” Straebler said.
Detours will be in place for eastbound and westbound traffic and, weather permitting, the project is anticipated to take one week, therefore ending on Aug. 31.
Broome County highway work
The Broome County Department of Public Works – Highway Division announced on Aug. 21 that various levels of work are planned on multiple roadways. According to a press release, motorists should expect to see the following projects beginning on Aug. 24:
Furthermore, a major milling and paving project is set to continue on Taft Avenue – County Route 029 – from Country Club Road to Twist Run Road, the county states. Motorists should expect delays, seek alternate routes and be sure to slow down in work zones.
