These Hornell area restaurants are open for dining and takeout on Thanksgiving Day

While research indicates most Americans will celebrate Thanksgiving with a home-cooked meal surrounded by friends and family, Popmenu’s annual study on Thanksgiving dining trends shows a number of consumers are going to leave the cooking to the professionals.

In 2024, 37% of consumers reported plans to order takeout or delivery from restaurants for their Thanksgiving dinner, according to Popmenu, with about 1 in 20 dining at a restaurant on the holiday.

A leader in restaurant technology, Popmenu said consumers who hang up their aprons on Thanksgiving most often point to convenience, cost, and quality of food for their decision to stay out of the kitchen on Nov. 27.

There is no dine-in option, but Billy Schu’s restaurant on Seneca Street in Hornell is providing free turkey dinners with all the trimmings for the 22nd straight year on Thanksgiving. To get on the list, call 607-324-9884, Monday thru Friday. Requests will be accepted through Nov. 24. Pickup and delivery available.

Whatever the reason for dining out, these Hornell area places are open on Thanksgiving. One is thankful for its comeback story in 2025, while another will serve a complementary dinner for the 26th consecutive Thanksgiving.

American House and Hotel, 128 W. Main St., Angelica

The American House & Hotel serves it famous Thanksgiving Dinner Buffet from noon to 6 p.m. on Nov. 29. Enjoy juicy turkey, slow roasted beef, baked ham, seafood and many other entrees, as well as the full soup and salad bar. A large assortment of desserts included. Adults, $32.99; kids 10 and under, $15.99; children 3 and under, free. Reservations are highly recommended. Call 585-466-3397 to reserve your spot.

Biggie’s Tex-Mex Bar and Grill, 66 River St., Hornell

It was one year ago when a kitchen fire on the day before Thanksgiving hit Biggie’s. The business has recovered from the blow, making renovations and major improvements, including the construction of a new kitchen.

On Wednesday, Nov. 26, DJ Jah Stone will entertain with extended hours until to 1 a.m.

Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, will be Karaoke Night starting at 8:30 p.m. Biggie’s will be open until 1 a.m.

Southside Tavern, 312 Canisteo St., Hornell

The Southside will serve a complimentary Thanksgiving Day dinner for the 26th consecutive year on Nov. 27. Open at 9 a.m. with dinner served at noon.

Settle in for a day of football and great times with good friends. All are welcome.

Racalto’s, 7465 Seneca Road North, Hornell

Racalto’s has a special order ahead menu for Thanksgiving. Choose from smoked turkey breast with gravy, smoked St. Louis ribs, smoked pulled pork and smoked brisket. Numerous sides are available, including garlic mashed potatoes, cornbread and honey, Racalto’s smoked beans, pasta salad, smoked macaroni and cheese, Maple City slaw and baked ziti. Reheat instructions are provided for all dishes.

Place orders at the restaurant or by calling Racalto’s at 607-324-5269. All orders must be placed by Monday, Nov. 24. Pickup from 9 a.m. until noon on Thanksgiving Day.
