A second man has been charged in connection with last year’s brutal quadruple homicide in Irondequoit, the United States Marshals Service confirmed Thursday.
Luis Francisco Soriano, 32 – who along with his brother is accused of killing a family of four in August – was captured in the Dominican Republic early Wednesday morning, according to the United States Marshal Charles Salina. He is awaiting extradition to the United States, Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters confirmed.
His brother Julio Cesar Pimentel Soriano, 34, who is also originally from the Dominican Republic, was arrested in connection with the killings in September. He was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and four counts of second-degree murder in connection with the Aug. 31 killings of a family – which included a couple and their two young children. He is also facing numerous felony charges including multiple counts of kidnapping, arson and burglary.
Luis Francisco Soriano is facing four counts of second-degree murder as well as charges related to narcotics, according to the U.S. Marshals Service’s Puerto Rico office. Authorities said that he had fled by boat from Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic after he learned that U.S. marshals were searching for him on the island. He was added to the U.S. Marshals Service District of Puerto Rico’s Top 10 Most Wanted fugitives list in September.
The quadruple homicide was a grisly scene that rattled the Irondequoit community in an otherwise quiet neighborhood.
Fraime Ubaldo, 30, Marangely Moreno-Santiago, 26, and the pair’s two children – Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno, 4, and Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno, 2 ‒ were all killed inside the family’s home at 329 Knapp St. Emergency responders were called to the home around 5:20 a.m. Aug. 31 to battle a fire. Multiple fires were set around the home, which were extinguished by Irondequoit firefighters who then found the four bodies inside. Police said the fires were an apparent attempt to cover up the killings.
After investigators in Rochester learned that Luis Francisco Soriano – who also went by the name “Jefry Yevo” – worked at a Punta Cana hotel, marshals stationed in Santo Domingo coordinated with Dominican authorities and arrested him without incident after he completed his shift at the hotel’s call center.
“Without a doubt, this is an exceptional job by the Deputy U.S. Marshals of the U.S. Marshals Service, both nationally and internationally,” Wilmer Ocasio-Ibarra, U.S. Marshal for the District of Puerto Rico, said in a news release. “Every case is important to us, but this one not only deeply impacted our communities in New York and Puerto Rico, it shook our entire nation. The horrific nature of this crime, which resulted in the tragic death of a family, including two innocent children, rocked the very foundation of our society governed by law and order.”
