Rondout's Owen Shaffer-Sermini, Lourdes boys claim MHAL boys cross country championships

Rondout Valley High School senior Owen Shaffer-Sermini won the Mid-Hudson Athletic League boys cross country individual title on Oct. 30 in Milton.

Competing on the 3.1-mile course at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome, Shaffer-Sermini won in 15 minutes, 57.1 seconds. He beat Our Lady of Lourdes senior Griffin Kinahan by 11.5 seconds and Wallkill junior Nathaniel Diemoz by 25.4 seconds. Lourdes senior Michael Falsetta was fourth and Wallkill junior Ryder Kilpatrick was fifth.

Shaffer-Sermini was 10th in 2024.

Our Lady of Lourdes captured the boys team title, for the second year in a row, with 44 points, topping Mount Academy (63) and New Paltz (120). For the victorious Warriors, Kinahan and Falsetta finished ahead of teammates Rocco Maggio (sixth), Chase Maggio (15th) and Edward Nuzzo (17th). Pine Plains won in 2023 and Mount Academy in 2022.

The Section 9 championships will be held at Warwick’s Sanfordville Elementary on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
