A new sports bar is coming to Piermont with lots of loud and proud Tappan Zee High School sports paraphernalia.
Rockland native (and 1999 TZ grad) Joe Agnello is behind the venture, appropriately named NoCo Joe’s Barbecue Sports Bar, which takes over the space formerly occupied by the short-lived Flywheel House (previously Roka’s and Rivertown Taphouse).
The longtime chef — for 16 years he’s run NoCo Catering and Events as well as the since closed NoCo Hot Box food truck and NoCo Kitchen in Tappan — said he’s always looking for the next chapter of his business and that this opportunity, which came to him organically, was too good to pass up. (He also runs the concession stand at Tallman Beach and Pool Club in Sparkill.)
NoCo Joe’s Barbeque Sports Bar: Sports mementoes and late night bites
Set to open in April at 5 Roundhouse Road, diners can expect a variety of TVs (there are 19), mementos from the professional sports world, rotating seasonal beers (many of them local) and late night bites — he’ll be open seven days a week to midnight, along with the aforementioned local pride featuring Tappan Zee memorabilia.
There’s also a state of the art audio visual system in addition to a refreshed décor featuring an Americana and sports world theme. “I want this to be a super casual place where you can come after the gym, from Wall Street, with the kids or without, and just hang and have a good time,” said Agnello. “It’s meant to cater to everyone.”
Fans of The NoCo Kitchen in Tappan will find a similar menu of brisket, barbecue chicken, baby back ribs, burgers, pulled pork, chili, and smoked chicken wings but expanded to accommodate a bar crowd. Among the options: pizza, trashcan nachos, burnt end brisket tacos and Agnello’s popular “redneck rolls” (basically mac and cheese in an eggroll).
Service will run seven days a week from 11 a.m. to midnight with the last seating around 10 p.m. for dinner; from then on it will be the bar menu. He also plans to offer custom cocktails (in the works now) and an “economical happy hour.”
As with its prior incarnations, the restaurant will also feature a sizeable outdoor patio.
