Motorists in Chemung County can expect some delays over the next several months if they travel on Interstate 86.
The state Department of Transportation announced plans to launch a major repaving project on I-86 Monday, June 30.
The paving rehabilitation project will require intermittent lane reductions for traffic along the interstate in the towns of Horseheads, Elmira, Ashland and Chemung, DOT said in a news release.
Officials expect the paving project to be completed by mid-November.
DOT said during the road work, motorists should anticipate travel delays and are advised to seek alternate routes if necessary. Construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
DOT also reminds motorists that fines for speeding are doubled in a work zone, and urges everyone to slow down and drive responsibly when they encounter road work.
