Potential Jets QB option Brendan Sorsby closer to supplemental draft

The New York Jets should be paying close attention to the situation surrounding Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby.

Involved in a high-profile gambling-related scandal with the NCAA, Sorsby applied for reinstatement after completing a stint in a rehab program. The NCAA denied Sorsby’s request on Tuesday, taking him one step closer to the NFL supplemental draft.

Sorsby’s next opportunity for reinstatement will come at a June 1 court date. If his bid hits another roadblock, the chances of Sorsby entering the NFL supplemental draft become increasingly real. Should the Jets consider submitting a bid?

The supplemental draft is essentially a silent-bid auction. It hasn’t been relevant in years, but we’ve previously had prospects like Terrelle Pryor and Josh Gordon enter the NFL via the supplemental draft. The process is simple. If a team submits a successful bid, say of a third-round pick in the 2027 NFL draft, they would be awarded the player while relinquishing that pick in 2027.

Sorsby is an incredibly talented quarterback prospect. The QB-needy Jets have Geno Smith starting for them in 2026 as a temporary solution. With Sorsby’s stock potentially tanking due to the investigation, he might be available at a bargain in the supplemental draft. The Jets should be willing to turn over every stone in their quest for a franchise quarterback.
