A Port Chester man was arrested Wednesday for animal cruelty after video had recorded him throwing and injuring a cat.
SPCA Westchester said Humane Law Enforcement officers received a tip that a tuxedo cat named Mittens had been “violently thrown” by Anthony Lopez, of Port Chester, at a residence in Rye Brook.
Video obtained by SPCA Westchester shows Lopez grabbing the cat and throwing it across the yard two times during a dispute. Mittens sustained a laceration to her head, which was promptly treated by a veterinarian.
Lopez was arrested Wednesday by SPCA HLE and Rye Brook Police. He was charged with animal cruelty.
“The video depicting the abuse of this cat was very disturbing,” said Shannon Laukhuf, SPCA Westchester’s Chief Executive Officer. “We’re relieved that she is now safe and receiving the care she needs.”
Anyone who witnesses or suspects an animal is being neglected or abused is asked to call the SPCA animal cruelty hotline at 914-941-7797.
