Over 30 animals seized from Cohocton home in Steuben County abuse case

A Cohocton woman faces more than two dozen counts of animal neglect following a Steuben County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the alleged maltreatment of at least 30 animals at her property.

The sheriff’s office on May 18 arrested Sheri L. King, 54, of Hillside Lane, Cohocton, charging her with 34 counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance.

According to sheriff’s office investigators, the department executed a search warrant at King’s Hillside Lane address on April 24.

The search allegedly revealed more than 30 animals in various states of malnourishment and maltreatment.

Authorities allege King failed to properly house, feed or water the animals over a period of time, resulting in multiple serious health issues to develop for the dogs at the property.

All the animals were removed by the Finger Lakes SPCA and Hornell Humane Society for treatment.

King was released on an appearance ticket for Avoca Town Court.

Sheriff James Allard thanked the Finger Lakes SPCA, Hornell Area Humane Society, Bath Veterinary Hospital, Avoca Town Code Enforcement and Avoca Town Dog Control for their assistance in the investigation.
