Orange men's basketball bows in second round of NJCAA Div. II tourney

SUNY Orange men’s basketball fell out of contention for a national title with a second-round setback on Tuesday, March 17.

The No. 15 seeded Colts bowed to No. 2 Palm Beach State 88-66 at the NJCAA Division II tournament in Danville, Ill. It was Orange’s first on-court setback since Jan. 10.

Anthony Pacciarelli scored 23 points, Darren McFarlane 12, Keishawn Morris 10 and Johnny Floyd nine for Orange, which shot 36 percent, hit 7-of-26 shots beyond the arc and 19 of 23 free throws. McFarlane had nine rebounds and Morris six.

Marvin Goff scored 25 points, Jovan Palavra 22, Carter Mungin 19 and Rickjerlin Senior Feliz nine for Palm Beach, which shot 49 percent, hit six of 16 three pointers and 16 of 31 free throws. Feliz and Goff each had 12 rebounds.

Orange led 17-14 in the first half before Palm Beach went on a 10-2 run. Palm Beach closed the half strong and headed into half up 42-28.

Orange drops into the consolation bracket and would require three wins to capture seventh place. The Colts have a day off on Wednesday, and will take on No. 10 Mid Michigan, an 85-68 loser to Danville, in a 3 p.m. ET contest on Thursday.
