Oneida County sheriff's deputy pulls man from burning car

An Oneida County Sheriff’s deputy responding to a car crashed pulled a New Hartford man from a burning car, according to a statement from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found that Zachary Boutin, 34, of New Hartford, was traveling westbound on State Route 28 in a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado when he failed to keep right and his vehicle crossed over the eastbound lane exiting the shoulder of State Route 28.

Boutin’s vehicle then continued southbound through a field before coming to rest after colliding with a tree. Shortly after the crash, Boutin’s vehicle caught fire and was engulfed with flames.

“Thanks to the quick actions of the initial responding Oneida County Deputy in locating the vehicle and victim, he was able to pull the victim from the vicinity of the burning vehicle to safety preventing any further injury from the imminent engulfment in flames of the vehicle and to where life saving medical treatment could be administered by EMS arriving on scene,” Oneida County Sheriff’s Office officials said in a statement.

Bountin was subsequently flown to SUNY Upstate Medical University for serious injuries sustained from the crash.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the New York State Police, Holland Patent Fire Department, Barneveld Fire Department, Kuyahoora Valley Ambulance Corps, and Life Net Flight.
